If you are new to Slay The Spire or the Ironclad, then we have an amazing guide
Ironclad Beginner Tips
Let’s hop right into the tips one by one for Ironclad beginners:
Be Flexible
The number one tip we can give you is to understand that there are no hard rules in this guide. Remember that each run is different and you will encounter a different set of cards from your deck each time. Look forward to breaking at least one rule from our guide in each of your runs.
Energy Please
The Ironclad needs plenty of energy to make the best use of the top-tier cards. Most of the game-winning cards need 2 or more energy, so you must look for ways to gain additional energy. You need to prioritize boss energy relics or cards that give you burst energy when you need it. Coffee Dripper is insane when it comes to the Ironclad as it basically gives you free energy.
Sustain
Ironclad is one of the bests out there when it comes to sustain. You can make use of the Burning Blood starting relic to restore 6 health after each enemy fight. For every 4 enemy encounters, you heal the Ironclad as much as you would at a campfire. Ironclad also comes with several cards that provide healing at every fight. Reaper, for example, scales well with more enemies and with more strength by healing for a total of unblocked damage dealt. Don’t forget that Feed also heals you even though the card only says that it raises max hit points. The Ironclad also has the Magic Flower relic available which boosts the amount of health restored in combat.
Prioritize Upgrades
At your campfire’s upgrades tab, you can take a lot of your mediocre cards to turn them into usable ones. You can upgrade those cards and deal more damage, reduce mana cost, or other sorts of buffs. Reducing energy costs helps with Ironclad’s energy-hungry cards.
Be More Aggressive
Even as a beginner, a strong tip with Ironclad is to be aggressive as there are plenty of cards that deal tons of damage. You will get more relics if you make the aggressive choice of fighting more elites. This in turn helps you get better cards and consequently, more gold to get more goodies later on.
Maximize Exhaust
Exhausting cards can be pretty intimidating when you’re new to Slay The Spire. Losing cards until the end of combat can seem daunting as you never know when a particular card might come in handy. However, when you start to see your regular hallway fights only lasting long enough to see all your cards once or twice, getting rid of them doesn’t look all that bad. With corruption, you can cycle out cards you don’t need to hopefully draw out ones you might need during a run.
Synergize
A synergy is when you have one or more cards, relics or potions that can interact together and complement their individual abilities. This normally wouldn’t be the case if those cards were played individually. Ironclads suffer when played alone but if you build your deck right, then you’ll able to scale more, hit harder, and take down enemies faster. There are plenty of cards that aren’t all that useful when played alone but can carry you to wins if you synergize them with other cards.
Pick Cards Wisely
Early on in your runs, you will come across some excellent cards that will entice you a lot. However, these cards will be of little use to you if you pick them too early or you can’t synergize them. These turn out to be dead draws as chances are that you won’t be able to play them. Even if you do, it will turn out to be a wasted turn that will cause you to lose health and won’t let you deal damage. The goal is to build towards your elite and boss fights in front of you now so that you can make the most out of your cards when the time comes.
Remove Useless Cards
Incorporate the idea of removing useless cards regularly as you make your way through the run. Toss away starting cards and cards that were great early on but can’t provide you much utility in Act 2 or 3. Sure, large decks have their own perks but chances are that it will take a long time till you come across cards that you desperately need.
